What these numbers tell you (and what they don't)
The ratings are nearly identical: a tenth of a star isn't enough to call one app better.
Revenue tells the same story of two apps of similar size. According to Sensor Tower, ReelShort earned about $130 million in Q1 2025 and DramaBox about $120 million, in a market worth roughly $700 million that quarter, almost four times Q1 2024 [3]. These are global figures: they show how big the apps are, not how much you'll spend or which one you'll enjoy.
Where the shows come from
Both apps are translated into many languages, but most of their series are American or Asian productions. 12+ vs 17+: what the age rating actually means
The age rating is the sharpest difference between the two. On the App Store, ReelShort is rated 12+ and DramaBox 17+.
The rating is shown by the App Store based on the kind of content an app may display. It tells you the minimum age the app is considered suitable for; it says nothing about the quality of the shows. In practice:
- If a teenager will use the app, it matters. A 17+ app is meant for adults, and parents who use iPhone parental controls may find it blocked on their child's phone.
- If you're an adult, it changes little day to day: both apps download and work the same way. It can, however, hint at the tone of some series.

Pick DramaBox if…
- you're an adult looking for a catalog that updates often: DramaBox advertises new series every week [2];
- you've already found a DramaBox series you want to finish. In the end, the catalog is the real reason anyone picks an app.
The honest advice: try both
Both let you start for free. The most sensible way to decide is to watch the first episodes of two or three series on each app and see which story makes you want the next one. Before buying coins or starting a subscription, check the price shown in the app and remember that subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. Episodes run about a minute and each series has 12. Beyond the free ones, an episode costs 30 coins; the smallest pack is 150 coins for €0.99 (first purchase only). No. According to their App Store listings, ReelShort is published by New Leaf Publishing, Inc. and DramaBox by STORYMATRIX PTE. LTD. They are separate developers with separate catalogs, which is why the same series won't necessarily be on both apps.
